Almost nobody implements SharePoint to a gold standard on day one. Doing everything at once is expensive, so most organisations deploy something that works and intend to improve it later. Later rarely arrives.

What you are left with is functional but fragile. Data security, classification and data loss need careful planning and ongoing attention. File server to SharePoint migrations are often incomplete, because SharePoint handles documents very well and other file types less so, leaving pockets of data stranded on ageing kit. And when the business grows, the original structure frequently cannot support what is being asked of it.

Rebuild, migrate or extend

Almost every SharePoint project we take on involves re-implementing SharePoint rather than adding to it. That sounds drastic. In reality it is usually the cheaper route, because bolting new requirements onto a structure that isn’t fit for purpose costs more over time than starting from a proper design.

We begin by understanding what data you hold, where it currently sits, who needs access to it and what your regulatory obligations are. From there we design a site and permission structure that reflects the shape of the organisation, apply sensitivity labelling and data loss prevention where they matter, and migrate content across with the gaps closed rather than carried over.

Where a rebuild is not necessary, we will say so. Some environments need tidying, better governance, or an extension to support a new part of the business, and nothing more.
