Powerful, and easy to overspend on
AVD is consumption-based. You pay for the compute, storage and networking your session hosts use, which is an advantage when it is managed well and an expensive problem when it is not.

AVD, with Nerdio underneath
Azure Virtual Desktop hosts Windows desktops and applications in Azure and delivers them to whatever device your people are using: a company laptop, a thin client, a tablet or a personal machine. Company data stays in Azure rather than sitting on the endpoint. Multi-session lets several users share a host, which is where a lot of the cost efficiency comes from. If you hold Business Premium, E3 or E5, AVD user rights are already included, so what you are paying for is the Azure infrastructure underneath.
Every customer on our managed AVD service gets access to Nerdio. The software automates auto-scaling, image management and cost optimisation continuously, rather than as an occasional clean-up exercise, and it takes most of the manual effort out of rebuilds.

Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365?
The two get compared constantly and they are not the same thing. Windows 365 gives every user a fixed Cloud PC at a flat monthly price, which is simple to manage and easy to budget for. AVD is infrastructure you configure, billed on what you consume, which is usually cheaper at scale and far more flexible where workloads vary, users can share hosts, or you need to publish individual applications rather than whole desktops.
Plenty of organisations end up running both. We will look at your user profiles, your working patterns and your existing licensing and tell you which belongs where. If you are coming off a legacy VDI platform, that migration is a well-established route and we can scope it properly rather than lifting and shifting the problems.
