Bright Blue Foods (BBF), one of the UK’s leading cake and dessert manufacturers, has appointed LIMA as its managed service provider to strengthen its technology foundations and support its ongoing growth ambitions.

Bright Blue Foods supplies premium cake and confectionery products to some of the UK’s best-known retailers – including finest and premium own-brand supermarket ranges.

With five manufacturing sites across the UK and Poland, annual group revenues exceeding £200 million and a workforce of over 2,000 people, it is a large business with significant technology requirements.

BBF’s Head of IT Andrew Bannister worked with LIMA in a previous role and brought the partnership with him as he took on a larger remit in his new position. It’s a familiar pattern for LIMA – technology leaders who’ve experienced the partnership firsthand are often the ones who come back.

LIMA will deliver its ProActive managed service to BBF, alongside Vulnerability Detection and Remediation (VDR) to underpin the organisation’s security posture. M&A activity is a feature of BBF’s growth strategy. LIMA’s experience of supporting organisations through acquisition – integrating new businesses into secure, consistent IT environments without disruption – will be central to the partnership going forward.

The deal also includes a program of transformational projects designed to deliver greater operational efficiency for BBF.

The challenge

Broadacres is halfway through a five-year program of digital transformation, including a move from an on-premise legacy housing management systems to Salesforce – a huge project.

The IT team is seen across the organisation as a key enabler in achieving its goals, but the management of a constant stream of new security vulnerabilities was slowing the team down and pulling focus from key priorities.

Steve Cook, Infrastructure and Security Manager at Broadacres, explains: “As housing associations, we manage a lot of sensitive personal data about our customers. We’ve got to make sure that data is as secure as we can possibly make it, while ensuring business continuity from an IT perspective.

“The current security landscape is terrifying. It’s constantly evolving and it’s getting much worse. Threat actors are using AI tools to make it even harder for us.

“There has also been a rise in targeted attacks against social housing providers, and an uptick in ransomware and attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in housing management systems.”

The solution

Low-risk vulnerabilities reduced by 92%

Steve said: “We’ve reduced the likelihood of a breach, which means we’re doing a better job of protecting our employees, our customers and the whole organisation.”

Reduced vulnerabilities, reduced attack surface

Steve estimates that VDR is only a quarter of the cost of hiring a full-time staff member to manage vulnerabilities. A significant saving and an investment that the board was comfortable to sign off on, when weighed up against the cost of a data breach.

Time freed up to deliver on projects

As Steve says, VDR enables the Broadacres IT department to dedicate multiple additional days each week to their key strategic projects, which are critical to achieving the organisation’s vision of becoming the best rural housing association in the country.

“Using VDR is honestly a no-brainer for us. It’s a good service, at a good price, and it does the job it’s supposed to do in the timeframes it’s supposed to do them.

The challenge

We had to identify those and balance the various risks and benefits of migrating or sunsetting the different systems as we moved them over to our cloud for centralised management. With LIMA’s help we mapped out any areas of concern within technology estates and identified anything that might be approaching end of life or that didn’t fit with our wider roadmap.

Stephensons is an award-winning top 150 law firm, with over 250 staff based in six offices across the UK.

With a philosophy of making it easier for clients to access legal services, Stephenson’s relies on its digital platforms for service delivery. Fee earner efficiency and data security are critical factors in maintaining high standards of service and the firm’s exceptional reputation.

LIMA and Stephensons have been on a journey together since 2019. What began with a single disaster recovery (DR) project is now a fully-fledged strategic partnership. By working together with LIMA to focus on solving broader business challenges, the firm’s IT delivery reached new heights.

The challenge

When Stephensons first came to LIMA in 2019, the firm was struggling with poor user experience within its IT systems – particularly with regard to its Visual Files case management system.

This situation resulted in lost revenue, as fee-earners were unable to work efficiently on the slow software.

There was also concern within the organisation about a potential lack of resilience and business continuity, which could present a major issue in the event of an outage or cyber attack.

The solution

LIMA worked closely with Stephenson’s to understand existing systems and the firm’s key priorities around fee-earner experience and resilience.

Following consultation, Stephensons took on LIMA’s ProActive managed service to bolster availability, monitoring and support, and adopted LIMA Cloud for Disaster Recovery (DR) and Backup. Having weighed up the options around its primary infrastructure, the firm opted to retain its on-premise solution for the time being, with a plan to migrate their whole environment to LIMA Cloud over a period of time.

However, when Stephensons suffered an unavoidable and unexpected power outage to its on-premise kit, the case management system failed over to the LIMA Cloud DR service and the results were nothing short of remarkable.

The firm experienced a significant improvement in case management performance in comparison to the on-premise platform.
